To me Autumnal dressing is all about clever use of layers and most importantly finding the perfect winter coat to off-set the onslaught of blustery days which living in Ireland ensures.

This A/W has presented us with practical yet equally desirable garments, one of my favourites being the oversized polo-neck sweaters as seen at Céline. Although my budget does not stretch to include one in my A/W wardrobe, I will be paying homage with my grey Topshop jumper.

In close second comes my obsession with the man-ish tailoring seen in abundance for women’s outerwear this season. To me there is a timeless glamour in throwing on a well-tailored masculine coat, whether it be paired with beaten-up boyfriend jeans or draped carefully on the shoulders of a cocktail dress. Hedi Slimane produced some beautiful examples for his controversial Saint Laurent show.

If you have window shopped the ever-enticing window display of Brown Thomas Grafton Street in the past few weeks, you certainly will have noticed the millinery perfection from Saint Laurent propped on a mannequin’s head. As a nation we tend to shy away from hat wearing, yet this A/W I predict big changes. It’s time to don the wide brimmed fedora whilst braving off the elements, in favour of our usual woolly cap comfort zone.

Saint Laurent Another huge trend, as always, is leather garments. I myself am a huge fan of anything leather, from a staple pair of ankle boots to white leather bra tops, I must have it all.

I’m more than pleased by the leather offerings this season, the high street has stepped up their game and produced leatherwear which strikes a yearning into the hearts of all. This season sees more creativity and open-mindedness as to the way in which leather can be worn, and also the types of garments being crafted out of leather. For instance, my white patent leather skirt makes for a welcoming change, as does a subtle cut out in a winter pair of boots.

And of course the leather over the knee boot must be mentioned. If you invest in one leather item this A/W season I would urge you to choose the over the knee boot (either flat or heeled), I predict them to reign supreme in the realms of footwear. Or perhaps indulge yourself and simply have it all, who am I to discriminate between a tailored coat and luxurious leather?
